Burberry Beauty Lip Cover Soft Satin Lipstick Set

This is by no means a brand new offering from Burberry (think back to holiday 2012) but I saw that Nordstrom brought it back on their website recently. The Burberry Beauty Lip Cover Soft Satin Lipstick Set features 3 shades of their "Lip Cover" Soft Satin Lipsticks: No. 1 Nude Beige, No. 8 Tea Rose and No. 10 Dusty Rose. It's a selection of colors that's designed to please. None too bold to wear to work and they certainly qualify as day to night colors. I imagine that Tea Rose and Dusty Rose are quite popular. Nude Beige feels a lot like concealer lips but serves a purpose. At $72, it's cheaper than buying all three colors individually but that kinda math only works if you truly like all three.

Burberry "Light Glow" Natural Blush in No. 9 Coral Pink

I always thought that Burberry's blush lineup needed a pink coral. But coral lovers beware. Burberry's interpretation of Coral Pink looks a lot like fuschia to my eyes. When I first opened the package, I literally went "Ack!" as the memory of Chanel Tweed Fuschia rolled in my head. A deeply pigmented fuschia blush is very difficult for me to pull off. And my experience with Burberry blushes has been that they are super well-pigmented. I'll tell you right now, Coral Pink is no exception. It is possibly even more heavily-pigmented than all the other Burberry blushes I own.

Burberry Light Glow Natural Blush in No. 9 Coral Pink

The Siren Red Collection (new for spring 2013, I do believe) features two blushes, No. 9 Coral Pink and No. 10 Hydrangea Pink. I kind of feel like they sent me No. 10 by mistake. But since I only ordered Coral Pink, I have no way to compare it with Hydrangea Pink. I checked the label on the back numerous times. What I have says Coral Pink. (I finally found a blogger's pictures of both and they are very similar with Coral Pink being ever so slightly warmer.)

Burberry Complete Eye Palette in No. 7 Pink Taupe (Part 2)

Burberry Complete Eye Palette in No. 7 Pink Taupe

So this is the second part of yesterday's post. I took a few more pictures of the quad and then I went ahead with the swatches. I hope you like sheerer colors because that's where Pink Taupe is taking us.

Burberry Complete Eye Palette in No. 7 Pink Taupe

Burberry Complete Eye Palette

I'm so excited to show you a few pictures of the new Burberry eye quad. There are a few different ones and not having seen any of them in person, I had a hard time deciding which one to get. After much deliberation, I went with No. 7 Pink Taupe.

Burberry Effortless Mascara (Volumising Lash Enhancer) in No. 1 Midnight Black

When Nordstrom does their Buy Two Get One Free Mascara promotion, I like to try new brands within similar price points. This is how I've gotten to try some of Dior's and now Burberry. I didn't really understand what made the product special or different from other mascaras (you can read the product description on Nordstrom's website). It all sounded like mumbo jumbo, trying to impress the reader into the purchase. A Burberry associate told me that it made her lashes healthier. Claims, claims! I finally just put the item to the test.

Burberry Sheer Luminous Concealer

Burberry Sheer Luminous Concealer

Continuing my search for the perfect pen concealer, I decided to try out the Burberry Sheer Luminous Concealer. My foundation shade teeters between Burberry Trench No. 3 and Trench No. 4. I can wear either shade for most of the year. However, make no mistake about the numbering because No. 4 is actually paler and more yellow than No. 3. I like their foundation a lot so I was hoping to have the same luck with their concealers. I ordered No. 2 Soft Beige.

Burberry Lip Mist Natural Sheer Lipstick Swatches

As promised, I have the swatches of the Burberry Lip Mists in the four shade sampler that I was given with my purchase of the Burberry Sheer Summer Glow Powder.

L-R: Copper, Rosy Red, Feather Pink, Blueberry

I have Copper No. 202, which I previously reviewed here. I also have Rosy Red No. 205, Blueberry No. 206 and Feather Pink No. 209. If you had read my review of Copper, you'll know that I wasn't impressed by the formula of that particular Burberry lipstick. I looked at these four shades and expected to like only either Copper or Feather Pink but I was pleasantly surprised at how wearable they all are.

Burberry Sheer Summer Glow Natural Highlighting Compact

Burberry Sheer Summer Glow Natural Highlighting Compact

Burberry Beauty has come out with a Limited Edition powder for the summer. It's called the Burberry Sheer Summer Glow Natural Highlighting Compact. The powder has four shades that can be used individually around the face and on the eyes. You can also swirl a brush through all four shades and sweep the color all over the face for a glowy summer look.

More to Ponder...

I've been working overtime to get these pictures ready. Here's what else I have coming in the next few weeks...

Burberry 'Lip Mist' Natural Sheer Lipstick in Copper

I've reviewed a number of Burberry lipsticks and recently, two glosses for spring. With that purchase, I received a deluxe mini Lip Mist in the shade Copper.

Burberry 'Lip Glow' Natural Lip Gloss

I've been hit with a little laziness when it comes to doing my eye makeup lately that I've turned to brighter lips to anchor my looks. I've talked about the Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Unique as an alternative to red. Sheer, layerable, bright but not overbearing. I've found another endearing way to get that lip in one of Burberry's lip glosses for Spring/Summer 2012.

Burberry Sheer Eye Shadow in Pale Barley

For Spring/Summer 2012, Burberry released a new eye shadow called Pale Barley. I'm almost embarrassed to admit, having been born and raised in the city, that I wasn't sure what color barley is supposed to be. I took the cue from Sting's Fields of Gold, which is the only thing I can think of that makes mention of barley, and surmised that I was expecting a gold shade when I ordered Pale Barley. Or perhaps it will be the color of a light beer, because isn't beer made of barley? So when it arrived, I was a little surprised. It looked a lot more brown in the pan than I was expecting.

A Fragrance Journey: Part Two - The Finalists

I'm not eloquent when it comes to describing fragrance so it is a bit difficult for me to articulate why I like a certain scent. I just know what smells good to me and on me, and that is the only basis I have for selecting fragrance. Over time, I have learned that I veer in the direction of florals. Musks and spice generally don't work well with my body chemistry. You could say I'm feminine, in the most extreme sense of the word. Unisex fragrances, very popular at one point, never sit well with me.

Before I went out and bought Chanel No. 5 Eau Premiere, I seriously thought about grabbing a bottle of Chanel No. 19 Poudre. I had been using a sample and thought it would make a good alternate fragrance. Alternate being something a little different from my usual florals.

Burberry Sheer Luminous Fluid Foundation

I've mentioned trying out a bunch of different foundations these last few months. I won't bore you with the details of my shade quest, but I did try a whole bunch before I settled on the one I currently use. My dual-undertone really challenged me with this brand.

Burberry Lip Cover Spring Collection Soft Satin Lipstick in Delicate Rose

Burberry Lip Cover in No. 22 Delicate Rose

I must confess, I cannot resist a nude pink lipstick. Burberry came out with a few Spring selections for 2011 and I caved and bought No. 22 Delicate Rose.

Burberry "Lip Cover" Soft Satin Lipstick in Rosewood

If you're new to the idea of Burberry for makeup, let me reintroduce Burberry Beauty. It's a small but ample line of makeup designed to create natural-looking everyday looks. In the US, it is available online (Burberry's website) and at Nordstrom. However, only 5 stores actually have a counter. Even the Burberry boutiques don't carry the makeup at all. Burberry launched this year and while it's garnered some interest, I'm thinking the novelty has started to fade away. For me, the main issue is availability. It's just hard to buy products sight unseen.

But anyway, I really liked the Burberry liptstick I ordered in Antique Rose. I liked the heavy pigmentation and the creamy, moisturizing formula. So I'd been wanting to try some other shades. Without a Burberry Beauty counter anywhere nearby, I had a tough time picking out a color. After a lot of research online, I went with Rosewood.

Burberry "Light Glow" Natural Blush in Peony

I'm quite happy with my first Burberry blush purchase so I thought I'd look at the other shades. On holiday, I found myself at a Nordstrom that had a Burberry counter so I got to try some of them and I picked No. 04 - Peony.

When I got my package, it had the blush in Peony and the lipstick in Antique Rose.

Burberry Blush in Peony

Peony is a warm light pink. I'd like to say it's a young-looking pink, the kind that gives you a youthful pop of color on your cheeks. Just like Cameo, it's super-pigmented so it needs to be applied sparingly. While the brush included is actually not bad, I think it's best applied with a skunk brush. That way, you can build color more slowly. This is just lovely on the apples of cheeks.

All the Burberry products I've tried are highly rose-scented. It doesn't bother me although I imagine it irks some. I don't think that it's causing any kind of reaction on my skin either. The color is long-lasting. Apply it before you leave the house and you're good for the entire day. Love it!

Burberry Sheer Eyeshadow

I couldn't help myself. Even if there was no way to see the product without ordering it, I had to know. Trying to play it safe, I got two shades, No. 02 - Trench and No. 09 - Rosewood.

Burberry "Light Glow" Natural Blush in Cameo

There are probably a good number of reviews already out for the new Burberry makeup but I've found that the photographs always look somewhat different. Truthfully, nothing beats seeing the actual product if you're looking to buy. There was no nearby Nordstrom that had a Burberry Beauty counter so I resorted to calling up the San Francisco store and having one of the SA's compare blush shades with products I already know. The SA was thinking that I might want to try Blossom but I wanted something pink, not peach or coral. I worried that Peony would be extremely light and I wanted a little more warmth so we settled on No. 2 - Cameo for me.

Burberry Blush in Cameo
Beautiful packaging. A little hefty but nice and sleek. Also comes with the black pouch (reminiscent of Chanel). I also took a version without the flash and moved it to the usual white background that I use:

They look like two different products depending on the lighting. To me, the no flash version is probably more accurate. I would describe Cameo as a warm medium pink with no shimmer. Looking at it from certain angles, I almost feel like there is a touch of brown to it but it is definitely pink.

Despite being called Light Glow blushes, I've found that the one I have is deeply pigmented. So much so that one swipe is all I need for a good dose of color on my cheeks. While I appreciate the pigmentation, I actually prefer blushes that go on the sheer side because I have naturally pink cheeks. I also don't mind reapplying periodically during the day. This, however, needs no reapplication. That one swipe lasts all day.

Burberry's products appear to be highly scented. The second you open it, you get a whiff of what has been described (not just by myself) as old lady powder smell. A little like perfumy talcum powder. This dissipates though. After application, I no longer smelled it.

I like the product enough to keep it and after swatching it against all the blushes I own, I have found no exact match. The brush in the package is also soft and useable, which is rare nowadays. If not for the magnetic closure, this would have been purse perfect. The mirror is nice too. Overall, I'm quite pleased with my purchase and I'm sure I will be reaching for this shade every so often.
