I have a folder on my computer with the name 25 days of lips and this got questions from my almost 10 year old daughter. I explained that I had put together an advent calendar for myself, much like the advent calendars that she's had through the years, except mine won't have Legos but lipstick and the like. Since we've had her little sister, my makeup needs have changed and so I find that sometimes I buy stuff and don't get to use them until much later on. In the end, I have amassed a month's worth of lip products that I have not had a chance to play with!
Last year, I purchased an advent calendar from L'Occitane and each day gifted myself with whatever hand cream, body wash or lip balm was in the box. The entire lot was far from perfect and I got some items that, in truth, I would simply never buy. This year, I told myself, I wasn't going to purchase anything that had too many "fillers" by way of content. However, I couldn't find a pre-made beauty advent calendar that met the criteria I had set. Some just didn't have interesting enough products, some cost too much and some were simply unavailable in my area. My solution is to put the advent calendar together myself.
I had been eyeing this wooden advent calendar (empty) at Target and when it went on sale, I purchased it. I am looking forward to filling it every year, for myself or for my children, and it will be a nice addition to our Christmas decorations around the house.
It does quite excite me to know that I'll be opening a new lippie almost everyday during the month of December. Renewed interest in items sitting around my vanity and a reason to create a quick daily blog post... what's not to like? The only problem that I encountered was that the drawers weren't really big enough to accommodate some of the items that I wanted to put in. I had to have them stick out of a half-open drawer, crossing my fingers that the whole thing doesn't topple over. I may actually just pop them in the day before, if the item is too big. Next year, I would plan better, perhaps skipping a theme, in favor of putting items that fit in there. I am already seeing that this means my lovely advent calendar will be filled with Shopkins and the like next year. I guess I just have to get more creative.
On a side note, these posts do take a little work so I have photographed most items in advance. However, I try not to use them until the day assigned to the item and in that regard, I will be doing everything a day in advance so that I can have pictures ready and have the post up bright and early on its assigned day. There will be 25 items and therefore 25 days, as opposed to the typical 24 day advent calendar. I can't wait!
