Guerlain Maxi Lash Mascara

Guerlain Maxi Lash Volume Creating Curl Sculpting Mascara

Guerlain's latest mascara, the new Maxi Lash, comes out with the brand's 2013 spring collection. I had high hopes for this product and ordered it the minute it appeared on Sephora's website. But I have been using a few new products and I try to use a tube for at least a month before switching, hence the belated review.

Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick in Golden Pink

Bobbi Brown's recent campaign starring Katie Holmes coincided with the release of their new Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick. The automatic crayon calls to mind the Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks in many ways. The color selections cross paths a few times as well. A very good example of that is the shade Golden Pink.

Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour New Colors (Spring 2013)

The Caviar Sticks are back! It's the twist up version of the brand's caviar eye liner that you can use for lining and shading. On the Sephora website, you'll find four new shades: Sugar Frost, Sandglow, Orchid and Rosegold.

I have been told that there are eight new shades in all and I do not believe that any of them are limited edition. However, there must be a distribution arrangement going on or maybe they haven't received the other shades yet because on Nordstrom's website, they have Grey Pearl, Mint Snow, Pink Opal and Seashell, which are all new, along with Sugar Frost, Sandglow and Orchid. They do not have Rosegold. Both websites have the original eight: Amethyst, Cocoa, Jungle, Khaki, Plum, Sapphire, Smoke and Steel. They are $24 each.

Laura Mercier Eye Pencil in Stone Grey

The Laura Mercier Arabesque collection wasn't a big hit with me but I was convinced to purchase at least one product that I've never before tried from the brand. The Eye Pencil in Stone Grey, new with this collection, presented me with that not brown, not blue but not quite black option that I'm always looking for.

Laura Mercier Eye Pencil in Stone Grey

Stone Grey is a cool-toned grey shade. I say cool because I sense a blueness in the base but it's definitely grey. On first application, I liked how smooth it went on. Some pencils trade that glide for a sharp tip but this reaches the middle ground, holding its pointiness (for precise application) and remaining reasonably creamy at the same time. I thought that maybe I had been missing out since I'd never tried these before.

Urban Decay Naked Nail Set Part I

Urban Decay Naked Nail Set

I had some free time one morning and decided to saunter into the nearest Sephora. I looked at the Urban Decay display thinking about grabbing an eyeliner or two when I spied the new Naked Nail Set. The set contains six nail polish colors that echo the shades in the Naked palette.

Snapshot January 2013

This is my new feature, the occasional *snapshot* of my vanity. I thought that this was a nice way to capture moments and help me remember what stuff I was constantly using or testing at a certain time.

The vanity below is where I meant to do my makeup on a daily basis. However, after we brought it home from the country store when we first moved into our home, I realized that there was simply no place in the bedroom with good enough lighting to actually sit there and put on my face. I've done my makeup in a well-lit room in front of a full-length mirror for years. Now I just sit in front of a window with a handheld mirror. But I still leave my things on the vanity.

So what's on the table, you ask? Hmmm... let's see.

Burberry "Light Glow" Natural Blush in No. 9 Coral Pink

I always thought that Burberry's blush lineup needed a pink coral. But coral lovers beware. Burberry's interpretation of Coral Pink looks a lot like fuschia to my eyes. When I first opened the package, I literally went "Ack!" as the memory of Chanel Tweed Fuschia rolled in my head. A deeply pigmented fuschia blush is very difficult for me to pull off. And my experience with Burberry blushes has been that they are super well-pigmented. I'll tell you right now, Coral Pink is no exception. It is possibly even more heavily-pigmented than all the other Burberry blushes I own.

The Siren Red Collection (new for spring 2013, I do believe) features two blushes, No. 9 Coral Pink and No. 10 Hydrangea Pink. I kind of feel like they sent me No. 10 by mistake. But since I only ordered Coral Pink, I have no way to compare it with Hydrangea Pink. I checked the label on the back numerous times. What I have says Coral Pink. (I finally found a blogger's pictures of both and they are very similar with Coral Pink being ever so slightly warmer.)

Ariella Collection Symbol Rings

I had originally planned to write the post about the Chanel liquid liners that I'd recently purchased but they were such a disappointment that I kind of didn't feel like writing about them. Yesterday, I had the strangest day full of unpleasant surprises like my jacket getting stuck to the car door which resulted in me being unable to open the door and almost ripping out the jacket. I managed to resolve the issue by climbing back into the car from the back and pulling on the door latch and then pushing with a mighty shoulder until the door finally did open to reveal my now dirty but thankfully still intact tomato red jacket. I won't bother you with the details of all the other mundane unpleasantness that ensued after but I did make a promise to take myself shopping today to de-stress and here's what I took home with me from a quick trip to Nordstrom.

Maybelline Color Tattoo Metal 24hr Eyeshadow in 70 Barely Branded

I missed out on the Maybelline Color Tattoo Eyeshadow in Barely Beige so the minute I saw Barely Branded, from the new Color Tattoo Metal line, I didn't stop to think and just grabbed it.

If you're looking for an allover base color in the champagne family, Barely Branded would be a go-to color for you. It's a metallic beige that doesn't seem to lean too pink or too peach when I put it on. It does seem to look a little peachy in pictures, depending on the lighting but works for an all-purpose neutral with my skin tone.

L'Oreal Colour Riche Nail Color on clearance (shown, VIP Status and The Queen's Might)

I caught a few bottles of L'Oreal nail color on clearance at the nearest Target. Each bottle was marked down to $1.48 from $4.99. I thought these two were particularly nice on.

Chanel Quadra Eyeshadow in Raffinement

Chanel Quadra Eyeshadow in Raffinement

What initially seemed like a dull set of browns has turned out to be quite the surprise for me. It may not have the sparkle of the holiday quad Harmonie du Soir or the petal appeal of last spring's Eclosion but the new Raffinement quad is a very versatile year-round combo that I'm happy to say was worth the splurge.

Chanel Long-Lasting Eyeliners Spring 2013 (Or Rose, Santal, Béryl)

Hello again! Welcome 2013 with makeup that's spring-ready (because winter is the new spring) and take a gander at the nearest Chanel counter. I'm trying to take a breather from lip color and told myself that this year, I'm going to try and focus more on my eyes. Not to say that I'm foregoing lipstick. Absolutely not! But I plan to take a closer look at eyeliners and eyeshadows that really work for me. Printemps Précieux de Chanel for 2013 had a neat offering of three new eyeliners, all in their lovely waterproof formula (which is the only type of Chanel eyeliner that I buy now) and a new eyeshadow quad that's designed to go with the pink and plum lip colors.

Because you've likely seen the quad out of the box elsewhere, I'll start by showing you the three eyeliners in the collection. By number, 89 is Or Rose, a shimmery metallic beige with peach tones. The idea reminds me of Rose Platine but the execution falls short. This particular eyeliner doesn't place color as neatly or easily as Rose Platine. It can be a little patchy and takes a few extra strokes to get visible color and shimmer. But the issues I have with it are easily remedied with a little patience. Once on, it stays on the whole day and then some. I love the color and I would have liked to see it in the Illusion D'Ombre eyeshadow formula just because I think it would be spectacular as a lid wash. As a pencil liner, it's nice for a touch of glimmer above the lashline.
