L'Oreal Colour Riche Nail Color in 496 The Mystic's Future

This is the nail polish I am wearing today. I bought this bottle awhile back but never found the chance to wear it because it always seemed to clash with whatever I had planned to wear. Granted, I slipped into little black dress mode for pretty much every occasion, the problem was that I was almost always wearing either a rust-colored coat (like a dark red orange) or a tomato red jacket. So I loved the color in the bottle but found it hard to wear.

L'Oreal Colour Riche Nail Color in 496 The Mystic's Future

The Mystic's Future is a metallic eggplant with fuschia shimmer. It would work with violets and plums and will certainly complement pinks. It would stand out against any backdrop of neutrals for sure. What drew me to it was the fact that there seems to be nothing in my nail polish collection that's similar. I found out the hard way that the reason this is so is because it doesn't go with my usual palette. Given the name Mystic's Future, it conjured images of a turban-wrapped fortune-teller at a New Orleans carnival. But that's my imagination playing. It's not an everyday color for me but definitely interesting. It has a good formula that is easy to apply and dries to full opacity in two coats (as pictured above).

This may be the last post for the year so if it takes me a few days or even weeks to get along with more reviews, I wish everyone a safe holiday season and a fantastic new year. Til then!

Guerlain Spring 2013 Makeup Collection - select items now at Sephora

It's been really tough to find the time to blog lately. I have only a few new-ish items left to review before the year ends, and I may yet end up posting those reviews early next year. However, I did get a chance to stop by a Sephora today and saw that they already carried a couple of items from Guerlain's Spring 2013 Makeup Collection: Cils D'Enfer. I had previously ordered the new Maxi Lash mascara, but it continues to sit in my drawer as I just haven't found the time to review it. Sephora has had it in stock online for weeks now, in the shade Noir. However, no sign of the other items from the collection: eyeshadow quads or lipsticks. The lip glosses are repromotes and I have already reviewed the lovely Frizzy Mango from spring 2011. I am keen on having another look at the fuschia-colored Cherry Pink (originally from spring 2012).

The centerpiece for the 2013 spring line is the new Cils D'Enfer (Maxi Lash) mascara, which should come in Black and Violet, and the super-sized Météorites Perles du Paradis. (Pardon the mobile pictures in uneven store lighting)

Target Makeup Deals 12-9-12

Just a few cosmetic items on clearance at your local Target store. Check out the JK Jemma Kidd display. Red stickers everywhere! At another Target that I went to yesterday, they cleared out the display and put all of the items in a bin at the endcap. The bin was overflowing with stuff because everything from the brand was on clearance. Many of these items are 50-70% off of the original price.

Guerlain Météorites Perles Light-Diffusing Perfecting Primer

Not everyone sees the need for primer before applying foundation but this is a step that I rarely skip if I'm doing a full face. I just feel like I might as well, you know? There are two primers that I love and use depending on the condition of my skin and the weather. On warmer days and when my skin isn't so dry, I use Make Up For Ever HD Microperfecting Primer in Neutral. On cold days and when my skin is exceptionally dry, I need the Laura Mercier Hydrating Primer.

I received a Guerlain Météorites Perles Light-Diffusing Perfecting Primer deluxe sample during the last Nordstrom Trend Show. I had purchased a slew of Guerlain products and there was a generous gift with purchase offered at the time. I have pictures of those items in a previous post (click here to see).

This particular primer has the light-diffusing pearls suspended in a gel formula. The idea is that the pearls will bounce light off the skin in a way that de-emphasizes imperfections, giving the skin a more even-toned appearance. How cute do those pearls look floating in the clear gel?

L'Oreal Infallible Lacquer Liner 24H in 171 Blackest Black

A really good, black eyeliner is a basic in any makeup collection. Nothing defines the eye better. Some may find a rich, dark black to be too harsh though, and opt for some form of brown, grey or navy. I previously reviewed the Navy version of the L'Oreal Infallible Lacquer Liner here. Buoyed by my good experience with that, I sprung for shade 171 Blackest Black.

This is more of the same, but black. It's a gel liner in a pot. The longevity of the product is phenomenal. I didn't get a chance to wear it for 24 hours straight but sure enough, it lasts all day long without fading or transferring to the surrounding areas. I can wear it safely on the lashline and anywhere on the lid. I have gotten it on a contact lens once or twice (totally my fault) but did not have any trouble getting it off the lens. To remove it at the end of the day, I recommend a waterproof eye makeup remover.

L'Oreal Infallible 24 HR Eye Shadow in 607 Blinged & Brilliant

I've bought a few of these L'Oreal Infallible 24 HR Eye Shadows and I guess the love affair is coming to an end. I last reviewed Smoldering Plum and Liquid Diamond and I like both of them but probably less so than I originally thought. After purchasing Blinged & Brilliant, pictured below, I realized that I have major issues with these hybrid pigments that will likely stop me from purchasing more in the future. But first, the product on hand.

Same packaging as the others. A screw off lid, an inner cover to press down the pigment and keep it from drying up. Color is visible from the clear bottom of the container and the top lid has the shade name and number.

Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Crème Compact SPF 20

If you've tried the Laura Mercier Crème Smooth Foundation and want something similar but a little lighter, the Tinted Moisturizer Crème Compact might be the answer. I received a generous sample of the product and a sponge, with a previous Laura Mercier purchase. A full-size compact costs $45 and contains 0.26 oz. of product.

The sample looks a lot like the real compact except it does not have room for the sponge. I did not get to choose my shade for the sample although I believe that it comes in 12 shades to mirror the current shade offerings of the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer. The sample pictured below is in the color Nude.
