Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream

I'm sure it has not escaped your attention that the BB Cream is everywhere these days. I never much followed the trend but had to know how American brands interpreted the all-in-one formula.

Maybelline jumped in with the Dream Fresh BB Cream, their 8-in-1 Beauty Balm Skin Perfector. The product claims:

-blurs imperfections
-brightens
-evens skin tone
-smoothes
-hydrates
-enhances
-protects with SPF 30
-0% oils and heavy ingredients

Chanel Long Lasting Eyeliner in Silver Light

Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long Lasting Eyeliner in Silver Light

There's a simple eye look that I love going back to often. Tightline with a black liner and then add a shimmery or metallic liner above the lashline for just that hint of sparkle. You can make it a bold color or even neon, if you're feeling it. I like to go with metallics. And Silver Light is perfect for that.

Chanel Le Vernis Nail Colour in Frenzy and Vertigo

Having concluded the feature on the Chanel Fleur de Lotus collection, I thought I'd move on to the items that I picked up for fall. Since I preferred the blush and eyeshadows from Fleur de Lotus, I went straight for the nail colors. I heard that Frenzy was going to be the next big thing so I thought I'd give it a shot.

Chanel Illusion D'Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow in Riviere

The Chanel Illusion D'Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow in Riviere, part of the Fleur de Lotus collection, is described as a green with golden highlights. I really hoped to capture it in various lighting to show off that goldenness (because it's there and it's fascinating) but I think it just looks different each time I take another picture. You'll see what I mean below. To me, it seems lighter and more bluish than the previously released Epatant. This depends on the lighting, of course. On the small surface of the eye, I've found that they are very similar. I felt that Epatant was just more shimmery and slightly darker. For some reason, I thought that Riviere applied more smoothly but if that wasn't the case, I would have preferred to have only one of the two and I would have picked Epatant based on the color.

eos Berry Blossom Hand Lotion

The eos Hand Lotion in Berry Blossom, packaged in this tiny pink container, fits right in the palm of my hand. After my initial shock at the size, I found myself appreciating a couple of things about the packaging. It's cute and it slipped nicely into my purse. The shape meant that I didn't have to deal with any pointy edges that could potentially rip or scratch the insides of my bag. The container itself seems quite sturdy and secure that I am not too concerned about spillage. It slides right into a small zippered compartment, ready for me to grab whenever I need it.

Chanel Quadra Eye Shadow in Rives

Chanel Quadra Eye Shadow in Rives

From the Fleur de Lotus collection comes the eyeshadow quad in Rives. It's a very neutral set of colors: a couple of browns, one a dark chocolate and the other a medium brown. There is a white and a kind of nude peach. None of them are really flat matte, nor are they glittery. There's a little golden glimmer which you'll see in the swatch but it doesn't make the colors any less neutral or versatile. They definitely appeal to me and I had no doubt that I would get a lot of use out of the quad as a whole.

Revlon PhotoReady Concealer

Revlon PhotoReady Concealer

I did a piece on concealers a few weeks back and I reviewed a number of department store brand ones. One of the few drugstore brand concealers I did get to try shortly after that was the Revlon PhotoReady Concealer. I picked up the shade Light-Medium, which seemed to work out rather well for me.

Chanel Joues Contraste Powder Blush in Fleur De Lotus

Fleur de Lotus. The collection was named after this blush. Therefore, it must be something special. And I honestly think that it is.

Chanel Aqualumière Glosses in Alizé and Roselin

The Chanel Fleur de Lotus collection that I showed in brief yesterday includes two Aqualumière Glosses in the shades 80 Alizé and 81 Roselin. 80 Alizé is a sheer golden peach and 81 Roselin is a sheer poppy pink. If you're familiar with the Aqualumière Gloss formula from before, you'll feel the familiar slip of these when you put them on. The formula has supposedly been discontinued so it is a bit strange seeing two new shades. They are new to the US, at least.

Chanel Fleur De Lotus Collection

It's neither summer nor fall. It's the Fleur de Lotus Collection from Chanel, brought to American shores via the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. Although the collection isn't officially available until July 20, Nordstrom cardholders have the privilege of making purchases from the anniversary offerings as early as today. For the curious, I took a few pictures of the items that I brought home. This is pretty much the entire collection, as Nordstrom has it, minus the Beige eyeliner which I didn't feel the need for.

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure 560 Kook-A-Mango

This is a lovely shade of red orange from the Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure range. Kook-A-Mango is probably more red than orange. You could pass it off as a dark coral. It's the very first bottle that I've tried from this line. They boast a formula that doesn't require a base coat or top coat and on my first outing with Kook-A-Mango, I applied it just so. No base coat, just one coat of Kook-A-Mango and no top coat. What do you think?

It reaches a pretty good level of opacity with one coat that one could certainly get away with just that. Application was a cinch. This particular brush, wide and flat, with a rounded edge, is well-suited to the curvature of my nail bed so I lay the brush straight down the center for the first coat, then pass over each side once and it's done. It does remind me of the brush of Dior nail polishes but I can't tell you which came first, just that I'd first seen it with Dior.

Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes

In the Target Beauty Bag I received with my purchase last spring, I got a sample of these Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes. I received another sample later on somewhere else so I've gone through a total of 14 wipes. The Simple premise is that you get your face clean (waterproof mascara included) and you get Pro-Vitamin B5!

Quick Deals at your local Target

I picked up a couple of L'Oreal cosmetic items for under a dollar apiece yesterday at my local Target.

The lip gloss was marked down to $1.78 and the eyeshadow quad was down to $1.85. I worked in a couple of dollar off coupons to get to my purchase price.

Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter in Candy Apple

Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter in Candy Apple

Revlon's Number One Lip Color (as claimed on their website) is the Lip Butter line with 20 shades of buttery color. The ColorBurst Lip Butters are packaged in a plastic case with the same print on the outside as the regular ColorBurst lipsticks. The lid is translucent and reflects the shade of the lip color inside (ie. red lipstick has a red lid).

Laura Mercier Nail Lacquer in Nude Silk

Here's the shade that I put on my nails today: Laura Mercier's Nude Silk. I picked this up at the Laura Mercier counter the same day I got the Cake Eyeliner in Deep Teal. Both items are part of the Cinema Noir collection for fall.

Clarins Double Fix' Mascara Waterproofing Seal (Lashes & Brows)

When I placed my latest order for mascara, I had expressed to the sales associate my interest in at least one waterproof formula. I had complained that although I like Chanel mascaras in general, their waterproof ones tended to flake off on me and dry up way too soon. I wanted to try something else. She recommended that I simply order my favorite mascara and use a waterproofing seal. Clarins Double Fix' was her solution.

The product is labelled exactly this way: Clarins Paris Double Fix' Mascara Waterproofing Seal Lashes & Eyebrows (see photo above). I didn't want anyone to think that I kept making errors referring to it as Double Fix'.

Burberry Effortless Mascara (Volumising Lash Enhancer) in No. 1 Midnight Black

When Nordstrom does their Buy Two Get One Free Mascara promotion, I like to try new brands within similar price points. This is how I've gotten to try some of Dior's and now Burberry. I didn't really understand what made the product special or different from other mascaras (you can read the product description on Nordstrom's website). It all sounded like mumbo jumbo, trying to impress the reader into the purchase. A Burberry associate told me that it made her lashes healthier. Claims, claims! I finally just put the item to the test.

L'Oreal Sublime Sun Advanced Sunscreen SPF 50+

L'Oreal Sublime Sun Advanced Sunscreen SPF 50+

When a celebrity endorses a product, not necessarily in an ad but say, in an interview, you have to wonder if the recommendation is credible at all. I admit, I looked at the L'Oreal Sublime Sun Advanced Sunscreen SPF 50+ because Jennifer Lopez said that this was her sunscreen of choice (she is a brand endorser) and that she uses it on her kids too. When I got to the sunscreen aisle, the promise of "skin beautifying suncare with antioxidants" was, in the end, what made me buy it.

eos Lip Balm - Smooth Sphere (6 flavors) + Vanilla Bean Smooth Stick

Lip balm hardly seems to be the most exciting subject to photograph or to blog about but I have to hand it to the brand eos (evolution of smooth) for making things a little more interesting.

This isn't the first time that I'm featuring the eos smooth sphere lip balms. The first product that I ever tried from the brand was Sweet Mint and I liked it. Sure, I had a few complaints about the packaging but I've come to appreciate it more lately. I like that when I leave it on my nightstand, it doesn't roll off to the ground. I don't have much trouble finding it in the middle of the night (for those dry lip emergencies, you know?) and tossing one into my pool tote, I quickly locate it for easy reappplication.
