Chanel Ombres Contraste Eyeshadow Duo in Sable-Emouvant

This is a long overdue review of the Chanel Ombres Contraste Eyeshadow Duo in Sable-Emouvant. Do I regale you with excuses? No. But I want you to know that each post is written with care. That I do use the products as extensively as I can (and if I roll out a post having used it just once or twice, I would state that) and I take this all possibly a little too seriously that I do not permit myself to publish a post without going over it numerous times. If it isn't up to par, it remains a draft. Sometimes, it takes time.

The Chanel Ombres Contraste Eyeshadow Duo in Sable-Emouvant is an easy choice. I saw the entire summer collection and immediately asked for it. A Chanel associate at my local Nordstrom told me that they were initially sent only a few of the duos to sell and they had sold out in a couple of days. But I wanted it so much that I couldn't even wait for them to ship it to me. I went out to another store and bought it that day.

Sunscreen Parade

We had such glorious weather this past weekend that it's hard to believe it's not truly summer yet. My husband and I chose between going to the Jersey Shore where we normally go and checking out Ocean City, MD. We opted to drive down to Maryland (something of a new fascination as we had been to other parts of Maryland twice this year already) and I am so glad we did! The experience turned out better than our multiple trips to Cape May and Ocean City, NJ. Even the drive itself, while slightly longer, was vastly better. We left rather early, which helped us avoid traffic. But I have this impression that the roads are wider and there are more and better options to stop at in case we wanted to grab some food.

Pen Concealer Roundup: Givenchy Mister Light Instant Light Corrective Pen

Almost two years ago, I reviewed the Chanel Éclat Lumière Highlighter Face Pen (you can read the review here). I bought this in an effort to replace a Clinique concealer that I had been using for about ten years. Despite my lack of satisfaction over the pen-style's propensity to waste product (when you click and click and nothing comes out, then all of a sudden, product comes gushing out and becomes unstoppable) and my concerns about the brush being a harbinger of pimple-inducing microbes, I simply cannot live without one. I make an effort to combat the flaws of the design by clicking only once or twice and giving the product enough time to release into the brush. Then I wash the brush every so often. Product still gets wasted but I'll live with it until somebody can come up with something better.

I won't go into details about the texture and consistency of most of the products I'll be discussing as they're pretty much all the same. They're all liquid formulations. That means no wax. The Chanel Éclat Lumière Highlighter Face Pen comes in five shades and the shade Medium fulfills my needs.

Chanel Joues Contraste Powder Blush in Tumulte

Lately, I feel like I've forgotten how nice it is to browse a counter, play with a few items, find something you love and then buy it. I've begun to fall into the trap of perusing catalogs supplied by associates or hounding online sites for preview pictures and then pre-ordering stuff simply based on what is visually appealing. In the past year, I have ended up buying collections where only half of the products really work for me and I'm determined to pack up that habit and go back to browsing before I buy.

Laura Mercier Nail Lacquer in Lavender Cloud and Zoya Brizia

If pastel is your thing, the Laura Mercier Belle Nouveau Collection for summer has a few items for you. One such is this nail lacquer in Lavender Cloud. It's a milky lavender that offers full opacity in two coats. While I felt certain that the shade wasn't completely unique, the two closest shades that I have in my collection aren't an exact match.

Soleil Tan de Chanel Luminous Bronzing Powder in Sable Beige

Soleil Tan de Chanel Luminous Bronzing Powder in Sable Beige

"Cheeks glow in sunny gold with Soleil Tan de Chanel Luminous Bronzing Powder in five sensual tones with gold accents. Blended together, they create a seamless bronzing effect. Used separately, the dark tones sculpt and the light shades illuminate."

I took the above quote from the Chanel website some time ago and for some reason, I can't locate it now. I had copied it down for this post because I loved the way that it described the new bronzing powders. There are two shade options for this summer, Sable Beige and Sable Rose. Sable Beige, photographed in various degrees of lighting for this post, is pegged to have warm shades of beige and brown. This is the last bronzer that I am going to buy this year. For my needs, this is the only one that works on all levels.

Burberry Sheer Luminous Concealer

Burberry Sheer Luminous Concealer

Continuing my search for the perfect pen concealer, I decided to try out the Burberry Sheer Luminous Concealer. My foundation shade teeters between Burberry Trench No. 3 and Trench No. 4. I can wear either shade for most of the year. However, make no mistake about the numbering because No. 4 is actually paler and more yellow than No. 3. I like their foundation a lot so I was hoping to have the same luck with their concealers. I ordered No. 2 Soft Beige.

Armani Eyes To Kill Intense Eyeshadow in Obsidian Black, Obsidian Grey, Ecailles and Madre Perla

Giorgio Armani's Bronze Color Collection for 2012 is a different collection for summer. Most of the brands that I generally have a look at went with more traditional bronzes and corals. One went pastel and another captured the turquoise waters of the Riviera. Armani Beauty seems to have gone further down into the ocean with darker shades of blue, plundering the depths to find algae, seaweed, oysters and more exotic animal life, then using their scales as inspiration. There are four lip glosses, a two-shade face palette, 2 eye palettes and four new shades of Eyes To Kill Intense Eyeshadow.

As I've never been impressed with the Armani eye palettes and I wasn't in the market for another blush or highlighter, I zeroed in on the four new, limited edition shades of Eyes To Kill Intense Eyeshadow. These four are said to be a pearl blend, which sets them apart from the previous Eyes To Kill Intense Eyeshadow releases, and two of the shades take on obsidian, a type of glass/rock produced from cooled lava. Volcanoes and rocks fascinate me. I had to see.

Dior Vernis Extreme Wear Nail Lacquer in 401 Saint-Tropez

When I first glanced at Dior's summer makeup and nail colors, I wasn't sure about what products to get so I opted to grab the Diorskin Nude Tan Healthy Glow Enhancing Powder and the Eye Glosses. In retrospect, I should have gotten the two nail lacquers. Since I already have enough corals to last me ten summers, I opted to just get the light blue Saint-Tropez for my collection.

I have limited experience with Dior nail polish but I am starting to like them very much. I have learned to appreciate the wide brush and the formula of the polish itself is stellar. Color goes on without a wrinkle and with Saint-Tropez, I got full opacity in two coats. It's definitely DIY-friendly.

Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm in Pudgy Peony and Voluptuous Violet

They're back! The Clinique Chubby Sticks are out in new colors. I had a chance to play with eight new shades and try them all on at a Clinique counter but decided to pick up just two. I got the hot pink Pudgy Peony and the dark berry Voluptuous Violet.

Kiehl's Ultra Moisturizing Eye Stick SPF 30

Kiehl's Ultra Moisturizing Eye Stick SPF 30

Like a few of my other posts, I would like to entertain you with a story while I talk about the product that saved my weekend, the Kiehl's Ultra Moisturizing Eye Stick SPF 30. I don't want to call it a review, and I pretty much never title my posts as such, because for me, the more fun part of writing the blog isn't simply discovering products and telling the world about them. It's that little bit of sharing, and again I use the word journey. Everything is part of a journey. With the re-telling of that journey, I like to relay my thoughts about products. That's all there is to it. I insist on keeping the titles mostly limited to product names merely so that it's easy for anyone to look an item up if necessary.

Chanel Le Vernis Nail Colour in Delight

I usually stay away from metallic nail polish. My limited experience with them has shown me that they can be streaky, gritty or inappropriate for anything but a New Year's Eve party. Chanel Le Vernis Nail Colour 607 - Delight changed all that.

Target Best of Beauty and the FREE Beauty Bag

Ok, what this post is about is really the FREE Beauty Bag that you get with a purchase of three select beauty products from the Target website. Mine arrived today!

To get this, I bought a truck load of lip balm :) But that's justified. I always need lip balm and I love the eos ones that come in that little ball. Remember Sweet Mint which I reviewed late last year? (Read that post - click here). Love it! And there's more to come.

Burberry Lip Mist Natural Sheer Lipstick Swatches

As promised, I have the swatches of the Burberry Lip Mists in the four shade sampler that I was given with my purchase of the Burberry Sheer Summer Glow Powder.

L-R: Copper, Rosy Red, Feather Pink, Blueberry

I have Copper No. 202, which I previously reviewed here. I also have Rosy Red No. 205, Blueberry No. 206 and Feather Pink No. 209. If you had read my review of Copper, you'll know that I wasn't impressed by the formula of that particular Burberry lipstick. I looked at these four shades and expected to like only either Copper or Feather Pink but I was pleasantly surprised at how wearable they all are.

L'Oreal Colour Riche Nail Colour in Pink Me Up

I decided to get two shades from the L'Oreal Colour Riche Nail Colour Hopeless Romantic Collection. The one I will be showing you today turned out to be the better of the two, as far as application goes. In the picture below, I'm wearing Pink Me Up!

Pink Me Up is a softer version of a creamy hot pink polish I wore a lot last summer (see Sonia Kashuk's Jammin here, reviewed almost exactly one year ago). There are so many pinks out there and I am pretty sure that someone can come up with an identical color. That said, I like this particular bottle for how nicely opaque it becomes in two coats. It seemed easier to apply than Butterfly Kisses, which is the other shade that I got. At $4.99 a bottle, I'm happy to keep them both.

Burberry Sheer Summer Glow Natural Highlighting Compact

Burberry Sheer Summer Glow Natural Highlighting Compact

Burberry Beauty has come out with a Limited Edition powder for the summer. It's called the Burberry Sheer Summer Glow Natural Highlighting Compact. The powder has four shades that can be used individually around the face and on the eyes. You can also swirl a brush through all four shades and sweep the color all over the face for a glowy summer look.

Spot Concealer Options (Bobbi Brown, BECCA, Body Shop)

In our continuing series on concealer products which I started with the handy guide to Laura Mercier Concealers (read the post here), I want to share with you some other types of concealers that I found myself testing before I found the one.

I want to start with the Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer Kit. I bought mine during the holidays last year. I found them at a local Cosmetics Company Outlet where they were discounted. I first showed the item in another post. That was by no means a review but I wanted to give a heads up in case anyone who likes the product was looking to get it for less. That's where I found mine.

Clarins Feed 15 Set

Mother's Day is approaching and I'd like to offer a gift suggestion if you're still mulling over ideas. With a budget of about $30 (plus tax), you can grab one of these Clarins Feed Sets. The one I have pictured above is a Feed 15 set which features 3 deluxe travel-size Clarins products: the 3.5 oz. Moisture-Rich Body Lotion, 1.07 oz. Hand and Nail Treatment Cream and a 0.15 oz. Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector in 01 Rose Shimmer.

The bag is a decent size zip pouch that can hold all three items and then some. It says FEED on one side and has the number 15 on the other.
