Laura Mercier Colour To Go Palette - Warm Neutrals

This is one of a few Laura Mercier holiday offerings for this year. Unlike the previous two that I just featured (the Cool Classics Trio and the Shimmering Neutrals Trio), this one is available at all Laura Mercier counters. The Colour To Go palette comes in two variations: Cool Neutrals and Warm Neutrals, which I have here.

The concept of these is similar to the Toolboxes that the brand had a few years back. Those had lip colors, eyeshadows, a kohl pencil liner and a double-ended lip and eye colour brush. With these new holiday palettes, you get eye colors on the top level, including a tightline cake eyeliner. Flip that up and you get a blush and a bronzer. Then you have a mini lipgloss that sits in its own slot inside. No brushes included.

I'll admit that I've become less inclined to grab little kits with a lot of products in it because they tend to collect dust in my makeup bins. I may bring them out occasionally for travel but I'm not always happy with everything in it so it makes more sense to customize my own palettes rather than get one of these.

In this palette, you get 3 small eyeshadows in the colors Ballerina Pink, Rosy Taupe, Cocoa Brown and the Tightline Cake Eyeliner in Ground Espresso. Note that there isn't much product here. If you run out of any of the colors, you will not be able to get the exact same one from the regular line.

L-R: Ballerina Pink, Rosy Taupe, Cocoa Brown, Ground Espresso

They swatch well but when using brushes to apply, these eyeshadows have a sheerer feel. You can see in the pictures below where I've put on all the colors and blended them out. I put Rosy Taupe on the lid, Cocoa Rose in the crease and outer corner and Ballerina Pink on the brow bone and then I used Ground Espresso as liner. All you can see is Ground Espresso and Rosy Taupe. Rosy Taupe is an especially pretty color and I wish that they'd put that in the Shimmering Neutrals Trio instead of Sundown.

The blush and bronzer seem like they are meant for lighter skin tones. On me, Lotus Pink and Soft Bronze work very well. A nice, natural pink and just a hint of bronze for warmth. But the end effect of everything put together is simply very plain. I suppose that's what they're going for here. A set of neutrals that you can wear anywhere, everyday and that will go with everything. Baby Doll is a nice cap to the look, a sheer warm pink that you can use by itself or layer over lipstick.

$48 is a pretty good value for the variety that you get here. While I don't think that this is the best you could do if wanting to sample Laura Mercier products, everything does go together very well in a handy little package. You could grab your tinted moisturizer and this palette, toss powder and mascara in your bag and be on your way. It does not have applicators so you might want to think about the brush set that they have out for the holidays too. If violets are more your thing, there's also a Cool Neutrals palette available.
