Rethinking Mirifique

Today I went ahead and did what I said I wasn't bound to do, and that was to use the Chanel Illusion D'Ombre Longwear Luminous Eyeshadow in Mirifique on my lashline. If you haven't read my review of it, go ahead and refresh your memory.

Touched by Fragrance

I had just read an article called French Lessons in Allure magazine. It's not what you think. No, not that either LOL. It details the "scent secrets" of the French, as revealed by a number of French women that were interviewed for the article. It got me to thinking about fragrance and my relationship with perfume. I've said it at least once that I'm not a big perfume person (see my post on Bath and Body Works Sun-Ripened Raspberry Body Splash) but it doesn't mean I don't wear any. On the contrary, I wear one, almost everyday, even to bed. If I like a scent, I would wear it for sure! I'm no connoisseuse but no occasion is too little to wear one.

Laura Mercier Lustre Eye Colour in African Violet and Bamboo

I mentioned yesterday the injuries sustained by two pans of my favorite Laura Mercier eyeshadows from a 4 foot fall. To a certain degree, I'm glad that only 2 of the 6 pans were damaged. But still, I'm not happy to have cracked eyeshadows :(

Laura Mercier Lustre Eye Colour in Chocolate

Laura Mercier Lustre Eye Colour in Chocolate

Browsing the Laura Mercier counter at Nordstrom a couple of weeks ago, I came across the display for the Canyon Collection and decided to swatch a few shades of eyeshadow. I fell in love with Chocolate.

Smashbox Photo Finish Light Foundation Primer

I had just about finished up my 8.5ml sample of the Smashbox Photo Finish Light Foundation Primer and am here to report the results. The mostly odorless, colorless primer is oil-free and very smooth. I appreciate that it's lighter on the skin than the original Photo Finish Primer and doesn't leave a heavy kind of slimy feeling.

Revlon ColorBurst Lipgloss in Rosepearl

On a recent pharmacy trip, I picked up the Revlon ColorBurst Lipgloss in Rosepearl. If you remember my review of Sunset Peach, I was not impressed with the pigmentation of the gloss but couldn't stop using it. I figured it was probably because of the color I picked and I may have been right.

Bath and Body Works Sun Ripened Raspberry Body Splash

Very rarely do I write something very personal on my blog. But I recently had a request to pick up a couple of bottles of Bath and Body Works Sun-Ripened Raspberry Body Splash as someone dear to me loves this. I hadn't walked into a Bath and Body Works store in years so I was terribly surprised to find a lot of the staples from my last visit had been discontinued. Thankfully, they still had them online and on sale for $6.

Now, this post isn't going to be a review but more a tribute. I'm not a big fragrance person and Body Splashes are not my thing. I've bought perfume for myself maybe twice in my life but I always have a steady supply that come as gifts. My favorite scents are Gucci Envy Me and the hard to find Madame Rochas. Me liking those though, has a lot more to do with history, my history, than the way the product actually smells. Right now, I'm digging Chanel No. 5 Eau Premiere. But my dad? Yes, my dad. He loves...

Bare Escentuals BareMinerals Well Rested SPF 20 Multi-Tasker for Eyes

I find it kind of tough to start off a review when the name of the product itself doesn't seem to be clear. So if I walked into a Sephora, with the entire mouthful that I used as a title, what exactly am I supposed to ask an associate for? I guess "Well Rested" is the shortest name for it so we will refer to the product as such throughout this review.

Maybelline Express Finish Nail Color in Taupeward and Beige Glace

Maybelline Express Finish Nail Color in Beige Glace (left) and Taupeward (right)

New from Maybelline and Limited Edition, these polishes showed up in a tiny display at my local Ulta. I'd never seen them anywhere else and I'm certain that they're new but I have yet to place a name on the collection. Seems to be a bunch of taupes and beiges with 4 nail colors and matching ColorSensational lipsticks. Anyway, I got two shades, 659 Taupeward and 670 Beige Glace.

Chanel Mousse Douceur Rinse-Off Foaming Mousse Cleanser

I've gotten some questions about the Chanel Mousse Douceur Rinse-Off Foaming Mousse Cleanser that I mentioned in passing when I gave a quick review of the Cleansing Water. I realize that I never did get a chance to review it. This is my regular cleanser now. I alternate between this and the Clarins Gentle Foaming Cleanser. I use the Chanel Cleanser exclusively with my Clarisonic and I only use it once a day, at night. In the mornings, I use the Clarins Cleanser.

Chanel Eau Douceur Cleansing Water (Balance+Anti-Pollution, Face and Eyes)

I wanted to get some word out on the Chanel Eau Douceur Cleansing Water as I know there's little information available on it at this time. Nordstrom has this product available in the US for a limited time as part of the Anniversary Sale.

Chanel Rouge Allure Luminous Satin Lip Color in Desinvolte

For this year's Anniversary Sale, Nordstrom is offering a Chanel collection that has not previously been released in the US. The Le Blanc Collection includes two Rouge Allure lipsticks and I went for the soft peach Desinvolte.

Essie Smooth Sailing Nailpolish

I had to try at least one color from Essie's Summer Collection Color Me Braziliant. Looking at pics, I was going to go for a pink but when I got to the store, I was possessed to pick up this dark periwinkle with silver microglitter called Smooth Sailing.

DiorSkin Forever Wear-Extending Invisible Retouch Powder

I deliberated long and hard before I went out and bought Dior's Wear-Extending Invisible Retouch Powder. I'd seen it online, not in person but I was intrigued by the concept that it was marketed for. At the end of the day, I figured, this is just another pressed powder, right?

Revlon ColorBurst Lipgloss in Sunset Peach

I've had enough success with Revlon products to say that I think it's the drugstore brand that suits me best. Their lip products, in particular, usually sit well with me. So armed with quite a number of expectations, I purchased a ColorBurst Lipgloss.

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss in Pink Pursuit

My foray into drugstore lipgloss met with reasonable success when I purchased the Revon Super Lustrous Lipgloss in Nude Lustre. While that didn't quite end up the go-to gloss I had hoped it would become, in the vicinity of $5, I'm satisfied enough to want to try another color. Naturally, I picked a pink.

Guerlain Rouge Automatique in Bal De Mai

This reminds me of the nineties. I had a Bonne Bell lipstick that had a similar slide mechanism. It wasn't nearly as sophisticated-looking as Guerlain's Rouge Automatique but the concept was the same. You slide a button and the lipstick comes up. Bonne Bell's cap just opened up and Guerlain's retracts into the tube. But I can't get over the similarity. It brings back memories.

Clinique Water-Resistant Eyeliner in Natural Black

Out of curiosity, I ordered the Clinique Water Resistant Eyeliner in Natural Black. This is a cake eyeliner product which I've used with water.

Laura Mercier Eyeshadow Swatches (inspired by the upcoming Classic Chic Colour Collection Palette)

I thought I'd swatch a few Laura Mercier eyeshadows for you today. I'm trying to approximate the palette included in the Classic Chic Colour Collection that Nordstrom is putting out for the Anniversary Sale this year. I've confirmed that the shades included in the 4-pan palette are buff, guava, sable and black smoke. I don't have pictures because as a rule on my blog, I do not ever post pictures that I did not take myself. As the collection hasn't been released, I just don't have any product to photograph.

The collection is sold as a set for $75 and includes not only the eyeshadow palette but a double-ended ponytail/smudge brush, a mini cheek color brush, the cheek color Plum Radiance which I reviewed last Sunday, a Lip Glace in the shade Raspberry, a Full Blown Lash Building Mascara and Mini Foundation Primer.

I think it's a good value with a color selection that's bound to please a crowd. If the Chanel Quad in Prelude is any indication of trends, I'd say a palette of neutral eyeshadows is right on the mark. This one includes the loveliest peach eyeshadow I have ever owned. I would get it except I already have most of these items. It would be such a redundancy in my stash and I would wager that my approximation of the palette would be pretty close. Here goes!

Top 5 - July 2011

Blogging has taken a bit of a backseat lately because of some major home reorganization we've been doing. But I haven't forgotten about the top 5!

1. Chanel Quadra Eye Shadow in Prelude - This totally, absolutely had to be at the top of my list. It's such an unassuming yet well-crafted set of colors that I find I can use anytime. And I mean anytime. Any season, any occasion, any time of day to do anything and to see anyone. It always works. This is the must-have quad for me. Total love.
