Rouge Dior Lipcolor in Versailles

This holiday season has given me the chance to rediscover an old goodie. I haven't bought Dior lipstick since a travel palette I purchased on an airplane in the 90's. Wait, that means... I've never bought Dior lipstick at all. The palette had 4 lipstick shades, I think. It was such a good palette and I ran all those lipcolors down to the pan. Funny how I never thought to get myself an actual tube until now.

Laura Mercier Eyelash Curler

Upon first receiving this Laura Mercier Eyelash Curler, I didn't expect much. It was this tiny plastic thing that had come with a smoky eye set. I had grown accustomed to my Shu Uemura Lash Curler, which truth be told, I only purchased because I bought into the hype. I don't find it exceptional (the Shu) but it does the job. I'm not really interested in buying another lash curler.

Useful Eye Makeup Travel Tools

Going away for the New Year? Here are some makeup brushes you might want to consider bringing along.

That's the set I used on our last vacation. They're not all from one particular set of travel brushes but an amalgamation of brushes I've put together from various sets I've acquired through the years. It's hard to recommend the perfect travel brush set, if only because people's preferences are all different and your needs for each trip could be different. For this trip, although I packed a foundation brush, I never used it so it's not in this picture. The Chanel powder brush above, from the 2009 Les Minis set, is one I often bring for travelling although I may yet replace it if I find the budget to get the 2011 Les Minis de Chanel Brush Set. I use it as an all-over powder brush. I showed the Sephora set (you can see what's in the case if click you here) only because I carry it in my purse for touch ups. I took along my Laura Mercier Eyelash Curler too but I'll be talking about that tomorrow.

Vacation Discovery - Basin

Vacations are a great way to discover new brands. I'm all about the hunt. Walking into a store I've never seen before, perhaps of a brand I'm familiar with or like Basin, something I've never quite heard of, ever. As we strolled Downtown Disney night after night (dinner at the Wolfgang Puck Cafe had become a ritual), I would pass this Basin store which sold all sorts of bath products. A cacophony of scents wafts thru the air as you pass outside and I'm inevitably drawn in by a display of jars which I later learned contained soy wax beads that you can make into a custom candle.

Rouge G de Guerlain in Galia (plus Idylle EDP)

One of the highlights for me, of this latest trip to Orlando, was discovering a number of nice things in the France showcase at Epcot. I never noticed but there are a couple of boutiques in there. One carries various brands and houses a small Givenchy store. Right across from it, Guerlain.

Entering the Guerlain boutique, I was promptly greeted and at once offered assistance. While appreciated, I'm usually happy to be left alone to browse. The associates trekked the intersection of pleasant and pushy but I will admit, they are helpful. I was going to look at makeup but was quickly steered towards the fragrance pond where, asked to describe the fragrance that I liked, I said floral, feminine and light. I was spritzed a number of the Aqua Allegorias but not finding anything enchanting, the associate went on to present me with Idylle Sublime, which according to her, was an exclusive in the boutique. A note disturbed me, I said, and she proceeded to spritz me the original Idylle which I did take to. This is fragrance though. I'm not just going to buy it after smelling it once in the store.

As the Christian world celebrates Christmas 2011, I wish you all a very happy and meaningful Christmas day.

Lancome Hypnose Doll Lashes Mascara

I bought a little Lancome kit at Sephora last month which included the Hypnose Doll Lashes Mascara, the Artliner in Noir and a sample size Cils Booster XL Mascara Base. I decided to take the entire set with me on my trip based solely on the good experiences I've had with the Artliner and the mascara base. I had used the Doll Lashes mascara on one occasion before the trip so I wasn't worried that it was going to be terrible. On the contrary, I rather liked it.

Laura Mercier Luster Eye Colour Duo in Dusk/Chocolate

Picking out vacation makeup is tricky for me. Some people take a respite from wearing makeup when travelling. I'm the complete opposite. Vacations mean pictures! Therefore, I must have the most flattering colors from my arsenal to help me along. The eye makeup is the trickiest part and the one I tend to vary with each trip. I do get tired of lugging around the same colors all the time but what plays the most important part in the selection process for me, is what the weather forecast at my destination looks like.

If you've not figured out yet where I was headed, the Mickey ears should've been the giveaway. Florida isn't as sunny, hot or humid in December as it is in the summer, so instead of going tropical, I went with my steady everyday shades of Laura Mercier Eye Shadow in Guava, Morning Dew and Bamboo, threw in the Ebony Cake Eyeliner, the African Violet Luster Eye Colour for variety and the duo Dusk/Chocolate which I got in a set (seems to be available only as part of that set for some reason). Dusk and Chocolate are available as individual pans but I appreciate the duo because it means I can bring one color more than usual and boy, was I ever glad I packed this one in.

Revlon ColorBurst Lipstick in Carnation

A last minute trip to Target is a prerequisite to every planned vacation. Mine wasn't intended to find new lipstick although I hadn't yet decided on what makeup to bring. I found a bunch of shades from Revlon's ColorBurst lipstick line on clearance at my local store. I wanted to walk home with the soft nude one but all the tubes that they had on the shelf were damaged so I settled for Carnation, a pretty pink.

What's to come...

A week of warmer weather with bouts of sunshine is what I need before welcoming winter. As I officially lift the hiatus on Pondering Beauty, I'll be sharing a few things I learned during a recent trip (an elusive pink lipstick, a new favorite eyeshadow combination, brushes I can't do without) and show you some interesting items I picked up along the way. Reviews? Certainly. While I get organized, here's a clue to where I've been.

A Fragrance Journey: Part Two - The Finalists

I'm not eloquent when it comes to describing fragrance so it is a bit difficult for me to articulate why I like a certain scent. I just know what smells good to me and on me, and that is the only basis I have for selecting fragrance. Over time, I have learned that I veer in the direction of florals. Musks and spice generally don't work well with my body chemistry. You could say I'm feminine, in the most extreme sense of the word. Unisex fragrances, very popular at one point, never sit well with me.

Before I went out and bought Chanel No. 5 Eau Premiere, I seriously thought about grabbing a bottle of Chanel No. 19 Poudre. I had been using a sample and thought it would make a good alternate fragrance. Alternate being something a little different from my usual florals.

A Fragrance Journey: Part One - How I Ended Up With Chanel No. 5 Eau Premiere

I have a small box where I set aside fragrance samples and into which goes all the bottles that I receive which I determine to be not for me. The box started as a small cardboard box and has progressed to a large, clear Caboodle with a lock and key. This box is presented to all female guests who ever come to visit me, with an invitation to take whatever pleases their senses. Many will sample up to about 10 scents before picking up 3 or 4. Some can't be bothered to spritz and instead will me to pick one out for them.

The difficulty with picking out a fragrance for another is that, fragrance is simply a very personal thing. It is always delightful to open up the box, but I myself always have difficulty picking out a scent from it. After spending most of my early adulthood rudimentarily polishing off bottles of eau de toilette gifted to me, I now relish the idea of buying my own perfume. I wait years to purchase a new fragrance because this process, this journey, if you will, is something I take very seriously. And my latest search has led me to the doorsteps of Chanel, for a bottle of No. 5 Eau Premiere.

Fresh Mini Sugar Kissing Trio

I grabbed this box while waiting in line at the checkout area of my nearest Sephora. It's a trio of Fresh's Tinted Lip Treatments in Sugar Passion, Sugar Honey and Sugar Plum. The item is marketed as a stocking stuffer. I think it's a win if based solely on cuteness.

Christmas Gift Ideas for the Makeup Lover

Although I'm not officially lifting the "on hiatus" status of the blog, I felt that I needed to post these pictures while the items are available and relevant. I've been Christmas shopping these last few days and here are some items I've been able to find at a slightly discounted price from various merchants (detailed with each item).

On Hiatus

The Pondering Beauty is taking a hiatus...

But not to worry, although there won't be any new posts until possibly the new year, I will continue testing products on the road. When things have calmed down, I should be able to sit down and write a nice slew of reviews for your reading pleasure.

In the meantime, there are a few hundred posts that you can continue to refer to on my blog. Comments and product/review questions are still welcome and I will be checking periodically to make sure you get approved and answered. For other matters, is always open.

Enjoy the holidays!

Lancome Hypnose Doll Lashes Set

I was in line at the Sephora event last night (20% off and a free tote!) and this woman in front of me had this red and silver box in her hand. It was the Lancome Hypnose Doll Lashes Set which I thought about getting online and then completely forgot about when I got to the store. I asked her if she could point out where in the store she got it and her companion promptly helped out by grabbing one for me so I could keep my place in line. We got to talking about mascara. I told her that the artliner in the set is a really good item and I asked her opinion on the other mascara I had in my hand. We'll leave the answer out for later (when I review that other item). My point is, this set is a good deal at $29.50. You're getting a full-size mascara and a sample size of the mascara base for the price of just the Artliner.

Chanel Rouge Allure Luminous Satin Lip Color in Enivree

Back to home turf, pink lipstick. I picked a particularly warm day to try and capture Enivree in pictures. I took shots in different rooms, with different lighting and I even took some pictures outdoors. If you need to get a feel for what this color looks like, you can think of it in at least three ways (as shown below, all pictures of Enivree). I sometimes sense that it's got a hint of coral and yet in some lighting, I feel it's all pink. In direct sunlight, think peachy pink with fuschia and gold sparkles.

Top 5 - November 2011

Over the course of October, my husband and I did a major rehaul of the master bedroom, which included uprooting everything and moving around every piece of furniture in the room. This, of course, means that my vanity and all my makeup drawers have been moved. I hope that with the way it's all been reorganized, I could reach for items I may have forgotten about and more easily find ones that I keep looking for. I threw out a whole slew of things in the process and unearthed items from the past that I liked but didn't reach for that much. I also found more samples that I'd been meaning to test and finally got around to it. This month's top 5 features a combination of some of those old items and some new items, all of which I have constantly got my hands on this month:

1. Le Metier de Beaute Kaleidoscope Face Kit - this was a splurge that I made last year, thinking that its versatility would simply outweigh its cost. If you read my initial review, I liked it but I didn't love it. After my makeup reorg, I started to feel that this truly is a wonderful combination of everyday products and I have been using it all month long. You get top quality, beautiful colors and it's all in the same kit. I still stand by my original opinion that for the price, I wish it had included a brush. But I can say that every product in this kit, from the powder to the bronzer, is top notch and will work in any season. Right now, I do love it.

2. Rouge G de Guerlain in Gilian - that perfect nude lipstick. I once complained that I spent so much money on this and I don't see it at all on my lips. But after much use (and believe me, this is the only lipstick I've been wearing practically all month long), I realize that because I barely see it, it really is perfect. I think I've gotten pale in the last few weeks and this probably looks even better, the paler I get. I don't mind because all I need is the accompanying shine of the Chanel Glossimer in Sweet Beige and it looks good in very light. It feels really nice on the lips too.

Left: Sweet Beige Glossimer, Right: Rouge G in Gilian

3. Chanel Glossimer in Sweet Beige - it's the perfect match to the Rouge G in Gilian. Except for the fact that Gilian has a silver sheen and Sweet Beige has golden sparkles, the base color is so remarkably similar that if they were the same brand, I would give them the same name. They complement each other so well that I wear them together all the time now. I may actually use them both up at the rate I'm going.

4. Too Faced Shadow Insurance - yet another sample I dug out from my stash and started using again. I'm amazed at how well this matches my skin tone that it just fades into my lids. I don't find that it mutes the colors of my shadows like some eye primers do. I think it gives them vibrancy and lasting power and I'm even comfortable wearing this by itself. It reminds me of a BB cream that just melts right in. And with how little you use each time, it really isn't pricey.

5. BE Big, Bright and Brilliant Trio of Mini Eyeliners - that I use these eyeliners so much has been a surprise even to myself. I'm big on tightlining but have found myself either just pressed for time or too lazy to grab a flat eyeliner brush, dip in water and use a cake eyeliner. I had these sitting on my desk since I got them and I've used them every chance I could get. They do migrate at some point when used above the lashline but I like how they are easy to use and non-irritating when used on the lashline. They look natural and they are wonderfully creamy that they glide on.

Chanel Glossimer in Sweet Beige

I picked up this Holiday 2011 Glossimer on a whim. I was certain that I didn't need another barely there beige and yet I thought, it may turn out really useful. I'm happy I bought it and I use it all the time. Chanel's Sweet Beige is my new everyday gloss.

Clinique Redness Solutions Instant Relief Mineral Powder

When given a sample of Clinique's Redness Solutions Instant Relief Mineral Powder, I was pretty excited to give the product a try.

I'm not the biggest fan of mineral powder formulas but Clinique's Redness Solutions line is pretty popular and I've used a few products from the line before (cleanser, moisturizer). It only made sense to try the makeup as well.

The product appears as a yellow loose powder. It reminds me a little of BE mineral makeup in texture. It's relatively light but does have some coverage. The photo above is a special sample size with a brush. The full-sized container is .84 oz and is sold for $32.50.

Too Faced Shadow Insurance

I just wanted to post a quick blurb about this eyeshadow primer, since I've been using it with the Too Faced palettes I previously featured. If you want the colors to show up a little more vibrantly and adhere better to the lid, this is what you need.

Bare Escentuals Bare Minerals Big, Bright & Brilliant Trio of Mini Eyeliners

Here's another gift idea. A trio of mini eyeliners from Bare Escentuals for $10. I'd never tried their eyeliner products before and thought that this made a nice introduction. It has 3 colors: Black Gold, Black Diamond and Midnight Moon.

Too Faced Glamour To Go Pocket Palette - Dream Edition

I almost forgot that the main reason I decided to start featuring these Too Faced Pocket Palettes was because of the Friends & Family sale that Sephora has going on. Go to this link or just type in and it should lead you to the sign up page where you put in your email address and they email you a unique code to use to get 20%. The code is only valid online and can be used for one order until Nov 2, 2011. Until that date, I will be featuring mostly items sold by Sephora, in case you decided to wait until the last minute to use your coupon. You can only use it once and I've heard that there's a 60 item limit (seriously, that's more than enough) but items do eventually go out of stock so I'm not certain if it's a good idea to wait too long.

The second pocket palette that I have, and I got this fairly recently, is the Dream Edition. It features 8 eyeshadows, a blush, a bronzer and one lip gloss. It's encased in roughly the same-sized palette as the Glamour To Go II palette, except this has a fancy-shaped lid. The design on the lid of the palette made it lose some of its slimness and does not add to its portability. The shape of the previous palette, a box with flat edges, makes it easy to slip in between things. The Dream Edition has a little more bulk and the fancy edging on the lid doesn't allow for the palette to sit flush against other things. It's a minor complaint but I question the change, as it does not seem like an improvement to the design at all.

Too Faced Glamour To Go II Pocket Palette

It's October and stores have rolled out the holiday items, including gift ideas and stocking stuffers. Last year, I gave out a few of these Too Faced Pocket Palettes to friends. It helped that they had gone on sale and I remember picking them up for less than $20 apiece. Now this palette is $23 and there are two pocket palettes currently available from Sephora. I'd like to feature both of them, starting with the Glamour To Go II Pocket Palette which I will be swatching for you in this post.

Chanel Rouge Allure Laque in Empire (with swatches/pics of Dragon and Ming)

Chanel has a small line of beautiful liquid lipsticks called Rouge Allure Laque. They don't come out with new colors often and the last two that I've seen out were both limited edition. This year's holiday collection includes the shade Empire which is a medium pink with a faint stream of gold shimmer.

Chanel Blush Duo Tweed Effect in Tweed Brun Rose

The Chanel Holiday 2011 collection has been out for some time now. I zeroed in on two products from the collection, namely the tweed blush in Tweed Brun Rose and the Rouge Allure Laque in Empire. I may pick up a couple more items along the way but the red and gold theme, while attractive, isn't very me. I rather enjoyed the inclusion of crowd pleasers in pink and beige and the Rouge Allure lipstick and the Glossimer may yet charm their way into my stash. For now, let's talk blush.

Chanel Illusion D'Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow in Epatant and Illusoire

I still believe that no brand has mastered the art of shimmer quite like Chanel. With the Illusion D'Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadows, they've given us a unique mousse-like texture in a truly long-wearing formula that will ensure your lids stay shimmery all day and night.

Le 2 de Guerlain Mascara

I have a drawer full of mascara. I'm serious. I do! I've been told that one needs to switch to a new tube every month, for hygiene reasons. It's going right by your eyes, you know? Better safe than sorry. But if one needs to replace the tube every month, this is definitely a purchase that needs a lot of thought. I want something that performs. It needs to look good and not smudge within a couple of hours. I'm also very picky with brushes. I've thrown out perfectly nice mascaras because I couldn't deal with the brushes.

Zoya Nail Polish in Jules

I had put it on because it was my wedding anniversary and although we had postponed celebrating, I wanted to test drive a look I was planning for that special dinner out. My favorite Chanel associate and I agreed that with a polka-dot dress, black winged liner and a red lip were in order but what about the nails? I read somewhere that matching your nailpolish to your lipstick was no longer fashionable, so I thought I'd try a taupey gold by Zoya.

Maybelline FitMe Foundation Swatches

I chanced upon a page in the latest issue of Glamour magazine that had samples of 9 out of 18 shades of the Maybelline FitMe Foundation. I have reviewed this foundation here and I use shade 120, which is one of the shades featured for Light complexions. There are 3 medium shades and 3 deep shades in the magazine sample as well.

eos Lip Balm - sweet mint

eos Sweet Mint Lip Balm

I had a breakfast date which ended with a brief parade through Target to walk off the eggs benedict and coffee. Scouring the lip balm aisle, I spied these little round lip balms and thought I'd take one home.

Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour

Laura Mercier launched the Caviar Sticks a couple of months ago and while at first, I didn't feel like jumping in to grab them, I had the opportunity to play with a few shades at a counter and decided to get a few. The first picture was taken with bright lighting and a white background. I picked the shades based on two things, what I thought was uniquely pretty and what my collection could use.

MAC Me Over Rachel and Ian Lipglass in Social Light

You know how I love a pinky/peachy nude lip color, be it gloss or lipstick. I spent weeks poring over glosses to find a replacement for an old Clinique favorite called Sunshine. Well, here's another candidate for that position, in the form of the limited edition shade Social Light. It's a beige gloss with a little peachiness and a pearl finish. Can be used on its own for the most subtle color on lips (really a nude) and can be paired well with a strong eye. Also goes well on top of lipstick if you want to tone something down.

MAC Me Over Fluidline in Avenue

I'd been meaning to grab one of these for ages. I mean the Fluidlines. I have a lot of eyeliner, and I tend to stick to basic colors so I never could decide what to get. But I was drawn in by this lovely black brown with tiny gold specks. The gold glitter is not too noticeable when on (and I like that because I'm not so sure how much use I'd have for a glitterbomb) but I think that it lends the shade a certain dimension that adds to its appeal.

Top 5 - October 2011

Fall is in full swing although with the temperamental weather, you can hardly tell. Some days I feel like bringing out all the richer eye and lip hues I've been wanting to use for months. But most of the time, I feel like it just hasn't been consistently cold enough to wear them. Keeping it real, these are the items I've found myself reaching for most often:

1. Shiseido The Makeup Powdery Foundation SPF 15- I usually keep this in my purse because I popped the refill into the case for the Luminizing Color Powder that comes with a brush. The powder works well for touch ups, it also works well to set foundation and give it a real airbrushed finish. The other thing that keeps this a staple for me is the brush included when you buy the luminizer case. I can't apply powder with a puff. I'm just not used to it. This brush? It's perfect. I almost I want to buy another case because I want another brush!!!

2. Guerlain Terracotta Light Sheer Bronzing Powder in Blonde - Easy color for cheeks and all over the face, all year round. I dust it more heavily on cheeks as a blush and distribute the remaining powder on the temples, forehead, nose and chin. It's the one step blush and bronzer look that I seem to revert back to often. I can even use the brush from the Shiseido Luminizer case (see above) to apply it.

3. Chanel Illusion D'Ombre Longwear Luminous Eyeshadow in Epatant - I've reviewed the shade Mirifique here and added more information on another post (here) but until I tried Epatant, I wasn't sure I wanted to grab another one. Now I know! The silvery grey-green is mesmerizing when on.

Another look at Rouge G de Guerlain in Gisele

I was going through my archives and decided that a repost on the Rouge G in Gisele was in order. Most know that the jewel case is engravable but there are also already engraved versions out in various shades. One such shade is Gisele, a deep golden rose, engraved with XOXO on the side.

Laura Mercier Lip Colour in Bing Cherry

I'm still testing the new Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks and haven't formed a complete opinion on it but I promise, a review is in the works. With my order for the Caviar Sticks however, I got a lipstick sample in the shade Bing Cherry.

Finding My Chanel Perfection Lumière Shade (swatches, first thoughts)

Chanel has launched a new foundation called Perfection Lumière. The shade names take after last Spring's Vitalumière Aqua although the number system used is a little different and might be a little confusing. I didn't have time to have the Chanel associate put the foundation on me but she indulged me with a few samples of shades that may work. I could wear B20 or BR20 in Vitalumière Aqua. I have both yellow and pink undertones but they're on various parts of my face so I really wouldn't call myself a neutral. My impulse is always to go for the yellow over the pink. However, she did warn me that Perfection Lumière oxidizes and thus dries darker than when first applied. We shall see!

MAC Me Over Rachel & Ian Eyeshadow in Mythical

MAC Eyeshadow in Mythical

I decided to take a chance and order an unusual shade for my eyeshadow collection. The MAC associate showed me a couple of ways to wear it and said I should wear it around the house for a little bit, to see if I would become accustomed to the way the color looked on my eyes. You see, the color is rather... orange. Reddish tones and orange shades aren't in my everyday roster as I usually find them on the unflattering side for my skin tone and hair color. But Mythical amused me, so I took it home.

Butter London Nail Lacquer Trio

I had been itching to order the shade All Hail The Queen when I saw this trio offered by Ulta. It includes All Hail The Queen, Pink Ribbon and Royal Navy. According to Ulta's website, Royal Navy is exclusive to the set. However, I have found it sold by itself on Butter's webite and Nordstrom so this information is not accurate.

Brows by Benefit

I had heard that Benefit Brow Bars offer a free brow service on your birthday so I decided to investigate. In the weeks leading up to my wedding anniversary (which is 8 days before my birthday), I walked into an Ulta with a Benefit Brow Bar. The information which I was incorrectly given at the time was that the service is only free on the day of your birthday. I checked the Benefit website and it says that the free brow arch service is valid during the week which includes your birthday (Sun to Sat) so I called to schedule the appointment.

The service that I received was satisfactory. The lady who worked on my arches was pleasant and professional. We discussed what she was going to do and how she was going to do it (brow wax virgin here) and I walked away pleased with my now well-groomed brows. I also had an upper lip wax although there was barely anything to do there so it took all of 30 seconds and it was done (she didn't even charge me for it). I graciously accepted the free service and granted her a sufficient tip. The brow and lip service combined would have cost $25 together. The brows alone would be $20. They do offer other services which I think are worth looking into if you need it. For me, after a few weeks of growing out my brows, I was definitely ready for some neat arches. I recommend the service and will surely be back in the future.

Chanel Quadra Eyeshadow in Vanites

Chanel Quadra Eyeshadow in Vanites

My fondness for purple eyeshadow is well-documented. In fact, if given a choice between palettes of blues or violets, 99% of the time I would grab the violets. Chanel's display had the Lagons quad, with its pretty blues and Vanites, with its pinks and purples. The Chanel associate had Vanites on when I visited her counter and she obliged me by applying the quad on me in the same way that she did it on herself. I'm the lady who always asks associates what they're wearing. Barring minor differences in hair color and skin tone, I usually feel that if it looks nice on her, it could look nice on me. Plus it's purple, it probably will.

Laura Mercier Eye Colour Duos in Cocoa Rose and Plum Spice

I was perusing the Laura Mercier website after discovering that Coupon Cactus* now offers cashback for purchases made thru them. I was thrilled by the prospect because I hadn't seen any other cashback site that works with Laura Mercier. Even more exciting, I noted a couple of eyeshadow duos that have been marked down to $10 apiece (but only on their website). First is the Matte Eye Colour Duo in Cocoa Rose and the other is the Sateen Eye Colour Duo in Plum Spice.

NARS Night Rider Nail Polish

I'm not one to fall in love with glitter polish but something about Night Rider caught my attention and possessed me to buy it. No regrets. It applies very nicely and looks like this with a base coat, two coats of color and a shiny top coat.

Kerastase Chroma Reflect Masque

Let's talk hair.

I'm not high maintenance when it comes to hair. Mine is mostly brown and tied up in a ponytail. It's not perfectly straight but it's not curly. Just a little wave here and there. I get a trim when I start to see split ends or if I want a little more shape but otherwise, it's styled in some variant of long and layered. I don't color but my hair does get dry. For special occasions, I like to leave my hair down so I bring in the masque of shine.

Kiehl's Lip Balm SPF 15

I bought this tube of lip balm at Costco last Sunday. I bought two tubes to be exact. I love lip balm. It's a cheap thrill for me. Granted, the discounted $12.99 for two still isn't cheap. It's better than paying $9.50 apiece.

Clarins Younger Longer Balm (and Clarins Night Routine)

If you read the previous post detailing my adventures with Clarins skincare, here is the second part. The "night routine" involves the Instant Eye Makeup Remover, the One-Step Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser, the Multi-Active Night Youth Recovery Comfort Cream, and the Younger Longer Balm which will be the focus of the review.

Clarins Multi-Active Day Early Wrinkle Correction Cream (and Clarins Day Routine)

I've decided to switch my entire skincare routine to Clarins products to really test out the line. I know that my skin does not react poorly to any of them after trying them all separately so I had no qualms about using them all at the same time. I reasoned that the products may work more effectively if used properly and in conjunction with one another. I'm going to split the review into two parts, this part is the "day routine" and the review is concentrated on the Multi-Active Day Early Wrinkle Correction Cream but I'll tell you all the day products I've been using with it.

First, the cleanser. I've already reviewed the Clarins Gentle Foaming Cleanser. Despite my initial reservations about using it full-time, in the thick of summer I went ahead and did it. So far, I am still liking the cleanser. Even with twice daily use, I haven't had any problems with it. I've even used it with my Clarisonic Mia and it was fine.

Next, the serum. I had a sample of the Multi-Active Skin Renewal Serum. The sample is .35 oz. and ran out rather quickly so I can't say whether or not it was efficient. I thought it was nice. I had no problems with its odor or texture. It applied easily and absorbed reasonably quickly. However, I don't think that I had a chance to use it enough to say whether I like it or not. I thought it was ok. I didn't notice any immediate reaction from using it and I don't think that I liked it enough to spend $62 on the full-size product (1.04 oz).

Top 5 - September 2011

It's been a busy month, like always. Truthfully, I haven't had much opportunity to test a lot of makeup so I've been concentrating on my skincare routine and trying out some new products which I will be reviewing in the coming weeks. My top 5 for this month:

1. Butter London 3 Free Nail Lacquer in Toff - I put this on my toes and never wanted to take it off! I think it's a wonderful compromise between brown and violet. Kudos to Butter for wider availability. There's a Butter display now at my local Nordstrom and at Ulta stores. I hope to see more colors in the same fabulous formula as Toff.
