Chanel Éclat Lumière Highlighter Face Pen

I'd been looking for a nice pen-style concealer, reminiscent of one I had years ago from Clinique. While I admit that the shade was a little off (perhaps a tad too light), I grew to like that little pen. I remember it being convenient, light on the skin, and good for illuminating dark areas. I first looked at Clinique to see if it still existed and maybe the shade offerings have multiplied but I was disappointed. So I sauntered over to the Chanel counter and tried a few shades of the Éclat Lumière "highlighter face pen." This is apparently the newer version of the old Pro Lumière and doubles as a highlighter.

Giorgio Armani Travel Brush Set

Along with the lipstick that I reviewed earlier, I got the Giorgio Armani Travel Brush Set that Nordstrom had been selling around July. I waited on this because I knew that Chanel was coming out with a brush set too and I wanted to get that one. But I picked it up anyway because I'm a sucker for brushes :)

Giorgio Armani Travel Brush Set - $75

This set includes four brushes with a travel size handle. I was told that the brush heads are actually full-size. The brushes included are the blush, blender (foundation), eye shader and eye countour brushes. It comes in a little zip bag.

You keep two brushes on the left and two brushes on the right.

It's a nice brush set. I don't think it's a complete set really, but it's good for maybe stashing in the car. The blush brush is decent. The hairs are soft and it applies evenly.

The blender brush, which they designed for foundation application, is not my favorite. In general, I'm big on sponges for foundation application and this brush streaks, like pretty much all foundation brushes I've ever used. It's different from most foundation brushes because of the shape and the combination of natural and synthetic hair but I personally did not think it made a huge difference in application. It's nice for applying concealer though. Good size.

The eye brushes are very nice. If anything, I've found the most use for those two. The eye shader is good for sweeping across the entire lid and the eye contour brush is excellent for those little corners and creases. It's a lovely basic combo which I've used with standard eyeshadow duos that have a highlight and a contour shade.

Overall,  hair and handle are both of good quality on all the brushes. This is a good set but I prefer other travel sets that also include a large powder brush and maybe an eyeliner/brow brush. For $75, I think I got some good quality brushes. Not the absolute must-have but also not bad. The size is definitely great for travel. Nordstrom is currently selling an upgraded version of this brush set for $100 and it includes one more brush and a different-looking bag. I think it makes a nice gift for the holidays.

Armani Silk High Color Cream Lipstick

My purchases last month included a couple of items from Giorgio Armani Beauty. I bought the Armani Silk High Color Cream Lipstick in shade 99. When I ordered the items, they also had a gift with purchase available.

Laura Mercier Crème Smooth Foundation

I can't believe it's been weeks since my last post. The weather's definitely been cooler and I have been super busy. I haven't even been able to pack my summer clothes away but I've switched my makeup. For me, the move to fall means two things. First, a change of color. I've been able to wear the Chanel Misty-Soft duo and use darker shades of nail polish. I rocked brown nails last week. I can't say it's a look I'll soon be getting used to but if there's a time to wear it, it would be now. Second is to switch to more moisturizing formulations. I mainly switch to a shower oil for the body and move away from the oil-free formulas I use for my face. I thought it was as good a time as any to try out the latest foundation by Laura Mercier.

NARS Blush in Douceur

My best friend Sheila got me an e-gift certificate from NARS for my birthday and I picked up a few goodies. They arrived in the mail the other day...

I picked up the NARS blush ($26) in Douceur which is new for fall and limited edition. I also got the Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base and a gift with purchase, a dual-ended gloss with Sweet Dreams on one side and Dolce Vita on the other.

I don't own a lot of NARS products. I've had my Orgasm blush for the last decade and I probably lived with that as my only blush for years before I started hauling more. Blushes are among the most popular of NARS products and I've had a good experience with what I have so I thought, why not pick up that new blush off their fall collection.

NARS blush in Douceur

This blush is described as a soft pink-brown. I agree with that description completely. When I first saw the product in person, I got a little scared because it looked so brown and I know that NARS blushes have pretty good pigmentation. But Douceur applies rather sheerly and is nicely buildable. As a matter of fact, I have no qualms about piling it on. I feel like it can double as a bronzer too and is nice for mildly contouring cheeks. I've been using it since the day I got it and I love it.

What's great about Douceur too is that it goes with pretty much any eye makeup I put on and doesn't detract from any lip color I choose. That makes it extremely versatile. Too bad it's Limited Edition. Anyway, I'm really glad I got it and again, thanks to my best friend for indulging me.

Chanel Rouge Allure Luminous Satin Lip Color in Confidentielle

I really like the formula of Chanel's Rouge Allure lipsticks. After much thought, I think I like them much better than the new Rouge Coco's. On a quick trip to the mall, I spied that Neiman Marcus already had the new lipsticks and glosses. So I got Confidentielle.
