Maybelline Eyestudio Baked Eyeshadow duo in Navy Narcissist

Blue eyeshadow wouldn't be my first choice on a rainy day but certain blues can look great on. Naturally, I got the Maybelline Baked Eyeshadow duo in Navy Narcissist. This is the last duo I'll be reviewing.

Maybelline Eyestudio Baked Eyeshadow Duo in Sinful Sinnamon

I'm not big on reddish eyeshadows but since I was collecting these Maybelline duos, I bought Sinful Sinnamon anyway.

Maybelline Eyestudio Baked Eyeshadow Duo in Lawless Lavender

I'd been looking forward to trying out the Maybelline eyeshadow duo in Lawless Lavender. I love lavender eyeshadow. It's one of the most flattering shades for brown eyes. This duo has a solid lavender shade on the left side and a marbleized pink and purple combination on the right.

Maybelline Eyestudio Baked Eyeshadow duo in Silver Starlet

The next duo on the block is Silver Starlet. I really had high hopes for this one because it looked really nice in the pan and it swatched reasonably well, even when dry.

Maybelline Eyestudio Baked Eyeshadow Duo in Khaki Craze

Khaki Craze was the first duo that I bought from the collection. I love gold eyeshadow and I'd been on a khaki streak so this fit the bill. You get a deep khaki green on the left side and a marbleized gold with green and brown pigments on the right. It's a really nice combination although each side could well be used alone.

Maybelline Eyestudio Color Pearls

After yesterday's post, I still have pearls on my mind. Looking up the Maybelline Eyestudio Baked Eyeshadow Duos, I discovered that the Maybelline website calls them the "Color Pearls." They are normally sold at $5-8 each, but I picked them up for around $1-2 apiece at Target. This week, I plan to feature a shade a day of the five that I have.

Ombres Perlees de Chanel Eyeshadow Palette

Ombres Perlees de Chanel Eyeshadow Palette

A girl's gotta keep to a budget, so I limited myself to this one item from the Chanel Spring 2011 Makeup Collection. But oh my, it is the most beautiful thing ever. I couldn't stop taking pictures of it.

Laura Mercier Sequin Eye Colour in Tiger's Eye

I had the opportunity to check out all the shades of Laura Mercier's Sequin Eye Color one quiet night at my favorite counter. They had just come out and the associate was nice enough to let me play around with all the colors. Then with one of my purchases, I took home a sample of Tiger's Eye.

Laura Mercier Sequin Eye Colour in Violetta

When Laura Mercier's Mystique Collection for fall 2010 came out, we got a sneak peek at the Sequin Eyeshadows that would become their next eyeshadow formulation. I got Violetta from that collection.

SoHo de Chanel Highlighting Powders and Blush

The star of the SoHo Story Collection from Chanel has to be the Highlighting Powders and Blush. It's a compact in the usual rounded square fashion but with 3 different colored powders and SoHo carved on the top.

Chanel Le Vernis Nail Colour in Steel

When the Chanel Soho Story Collection became available on, I picked up only two items. One is the Rouge Coco in Stunning, which I've already reviewed. The other is the nail color Steel ($23).

NARS Lip Gloss

I recently had a chance to get a sample of a couple of NARS lip gloss shades. The duo here was a gift with purchase on the online order that included my NARS blush in Douceur and the recently reviewed Eyeshadow Base.

Laura Mercier Invisible Loose Setting Powder and Fan Brush Preview

I recently placed an order with Sephora and was able to get my sample of the new Laura Mercier Invisible Loose Setting Powder with the mini fan brush. Ironically, one of the items in my order was actually the full-sized Powder Fan Brush. I just wasn't sure I wanted to order the powder yet.

I've been using the Laura Mercier Translucent Powder to set my makeup for years. I even have the Loose Setting Powder from when they used to make it in various shades (not just translucent). Laura Mercier powders are topnotch. I try other brands but I always go back to Laura Mercier. Naturally, I was curious about this new powder.

Guerlain Écrin 6 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette in Rue De Passy

Nowadays, I crave variety over quantity. More colors over bigger pans. But at the end of the day, I realize that maybe I should be looking for more quality over everything else. If you're willing to shell out extra for that quality, here is a suggestion: the Guerlain Écrin 6 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette in Rue de Passy.

I wasn't really in the market for a new eye primer but a good friend gave me a gift certificate so I thought I'd give this one a try.

Smashbox Instant Eyes Shadow and Liner Palette

The Smashbox Instant Eyes Shadow and Liner Palette features 4 eyeshadows and 3 cream liners in a tiny palette with a mirror and double-ended brush. Sephora had been selling it at a bargain price and when it arrived, it had no box, just bubblewrap. I have a theory that such items that they feature on sale sometimes come from sets that are broken apart and sold as individual items. Not necessarily a bad thing if a set isn't interesting enough to spend $45 on.

Butter London 3 Free Nail Lacquer in Marrow

I'd been growing quite adventurous with my nail color selections lately. Maybe I'm bored with the old pinks and nudes. Maybe it's the weather. Well whatever it is seems to have possessed me to buy a Violet nailpolish. The latest incarnation, from a brand that's been garnering a lot of interest lately, is Butter London's Marrow.

Rouge G de Guerlain in Gisele

I had mixed feelings about the shade Gilian, my first ever Rouge G purchase. I loved the formula of the lipstick but wanted a little more oomph, as far as the color went. I decided to go with Gisele which is described as a deep golden rose.

The formula stays true to my first impression. The pigmentation is very nice, the application very smooth and the feel on the lips, super creamy. When you see it, it's definitely luxurious, what with that heavy silver case with the pop-up mirror.

Sephora Collection Nano Eyeliner

Sephora sells a lot of eyeliners and of course, they have their own brand of it. Truthfully, the day I picked these up, I wasn't looking for one. I was just looking to fill up my cart to get free shipping on my online order. At $5 a pop, these Nano Eyeliners worked perfectly.

Barbie lives on

On the requisite trip to Target yesterday, I spent a good amount of time hanging out at the Barbie aisle. The choices remain endless (but stocks don't!). I zeroed in on the Barbie I Can Be series which Target was selling for $7.99. This week, this is the best deal on Barbie that you can find (considering the regular retail of the specific doll and not including Barbie dolls that are regularly-priced at $20 and up). Granted, they had the Basic Barbie on sale for less than $5, and you could still get a doll for around that price, if it's a gift for someone special, you'd want a little more than your basic doll in a two-piece, no?

It reminded me to dig up my old Barbie Loves Stila palette that hasn't been getting much attention. It's the old All Doll'd Up eyeshadow palette from 2009 with 4 pans, 12 colors and a lenticular Barbie image in front. There's no reason you can't recreate a Barbie eye with this one.

Laura Mercier Colour Essentials Face Palette

Nordstrom has an exclusive item from Laura Mercier out for the holidays. Laura Mercier is one of my favorite makeup brands and I've probably tried each and every product from this line. Picking this up required some thought on my part but as I didn't have any of the shades in the palette, I went for it.

The Laura Mercier Colour Essentials Face Palette is a boxed set that includes not just the palette but a full-size lip pencil in Natural and a mini eye basics in Wheat. The entire kit is encased in a lovely brown drawstring velvet pouch and everything is in one box.

L'Occitane Almond Shower Oil

I've been thinking about a friend of mine who's moved to Norway for work and how she must be dealing with the cold weather and the lack of humidity. When I first moved to the east coast, my skin got so dry, I had to revamp my entire grooming routine. I changed all my bath products and became somewhat of a moisturizer addict. Lotion became a necessity, not a luxury. It was out with the soap and the Bath and Body Works shower gels too. One winter, I discovered L'Occitane's Almond Shower Oil and I was hooked.

Burberry "Lip Cover" Soft Satin Lipstick in Rosewood

If you're new to the idea of Burberry for makeup, let me reintroduce Burberry Beauty. It's a small but ample line of makeup designed to create natural-looking everyday looks. In the US, it is available online (Burberry's website) and at Nordstrom. However, only 5 stores actually have a counter. Even the Burberry boutiques don't carry the makeup at all. Burberry launched this year and while it's garnered some interest, I'm thinking the novelty has started to fade away. For me, the main issue is availability. It's just hard to buy products sight unseen.

But anyway, I really liked the Burberry liptstick I ordered in Antique Rose. I liked the heavy pigmentation and the creamy, moisturizing formula. So I'd been wanting to try some other shades. Without a Burberry Beauty counter anywhere nearby, I had a tough time picking out a color. After a lot of research online, I went with Rosewood.

Chanel Le Vernis Nail Colour in Rouge Fatal

I've never worn red nail polish in my entire life. Ok, maybe I should say, I never had, until now. Not that I don't own any red at all. I must have maybe 3 or 4 red shades in my stash. I picked up OPI's I'm Not Really A Waitress and never wore it. I have an Essie red shade that I got as a gift with purchase and never wore it. But for some reason, when Rouge Fatal came out, I was smitten.

You would think, a Chanel red? Dragon is always the favorite. But I'd been on a dark polish kick lately and the tinge of brown in Rouge Fatal was probably what nailed it.

Rock & Republic Contrived Pressed Blush

Last September, Rock & Republic had one of those half price sales on their cosmetics and I decided to pick up a couple of blushes. I heard that about a week or two before that, HauteLook already had the sale so most of the colors were gone. As of this posting, only one shade is left on R&Rs website (and they have the sale again!). I imagine that these blushes will pop up in various discount stores if they haven't already. It looks like R&R is phasing out their cosmetics line. I'm not 100% about that info but all signs point there. Either that, or they're getting rid of all stocks to revamp the line. But I doubt that since I've read about the financial troubles this company has been through.

So anyway, the two I picked up are Lust and Seduce. They retail for $40 normally. For this price, you get a very large pan, with product enough to last you a lifetime. Seriously. The packaging is pretty but quite wasteful. You get this uber-large round box with the item nestled securely between cardboard inside.

Revlon Classic Nudes Eye Collection

On a fairly recent trip to Target, I chanced upon a bunch of Revlon eyeshadows with the bright orange sticker (wink wink). 50% off! And I had coupons! Quickly doing the math in my head, I snatched up 2 of them. Less than 3 dollars for an eyeshadow quad and eyeliner! I love Target :)

The first item I got was the Revlon Classic Nudes Eye Collection which consists of the Revlon ColorStay 12 Hour Eye Shadow quad In The Buff and the Revlon ColorStay Liquid Eye Pen in Blackest Black.

Chanel Joues Contraste Powder Blush Rose Temptation

I finally decided to just get it. I must have tried it at the counter at least 3 times before I finally picked it up. That final try, I gave in because it really looked pretty on and everywhere I looked, it was out of stock. The counter I was at only had 2 of them left. Maybe that's why they make limited edition shades. It makes the temptation even worse because once it's gone, it's gone!

Sephora Collection Ultra Vinyl Lip Pencil

I've been looking for a pencil liner that I can use with my Rouge G in Gilian. It occurred to me that the color might look better layered with a neutral liner because the color looks way too similar to my lips that I can't even tell I'm wearing lipstick when I have it on. You could say, my lips but better? But NO. As in, it really looks like my lips and I might as well not have bothered with lipstick.

Don't get me wrong. I want to keep using my Rouge G but there has to be a better way to wear it. I tried Chanel's lipliner in Beige (too beige, like putting foundation on my lips). I also tried NARS Belle De Jour Lip Pencil (also too beige but easier to put on). On a trip to Sephora, I told an associate my issue and she looked on as I put Gilian over Belle De Jour. Then she said, I have something you might like better. She came back with Sephora's new Ultra Vinyl Lip Pencils ($12). She handed me the color Sweet Beige.

Rouge G de Guerlain in Gilian

I've been reading a lot about how the Rouge G's are the top of the line lipsticks of Guerlain. I have a couple of the KissKiss ones and while I love their colors, I do find the formula a tad drying. I was told that the Rouge G's would be different in that regard. I went with Gilian for my test purchase. It's supposed to be a very neutral pinkish beige shade that should be able to go with anything and everything.

Chanel Éclat Lumière Highlighter Face Pen

I'd been looking for a nice pen-style concealer, reminiscent of one I had years ago from Clinique. While I admit that the shade was a little off (perhaps a tad too light), I grew to like that little pen. I remember it being convenient, light on the skin, and good for illuminating dark areas. I first looked at Clinique to see if it still existed and maybe the shade offerings have multiplied but I was disappointed. So I sauntered over to the Chanel counter and tried a few shades of the Éclat Lumière "highlighter face pen." This is apparently the newer version of the old Pro Lumière and doubles as a highlighter.

Giorgio Armani Travel Brush Set

Along with the lipstick that I reviewed earlier, I got the Giorgio Armani Travel Brush Set that Nordstrom had been selling around July. I waited on this because I knew that Chanel was coming out with a brush set too and I wanted to get that one. But I picked it up anyway because I'm a sucker for brushes :)

Giorgio Armani Travel Brush Set - $75

This set includes four brushes with a travel size handle. I was told that the brush heads are actually full-size. The brushes included are the blush, blender (foundation), eye shader and eye countour brushes. It comes in a little zip bag.

You keep two brushes on the left and two brushes on the right.

It's a nice brush set. I don't think it's a complete set really, but it's good for maybe stashing in the car. The blush brush is decent. The hairs are soft and it applies evenly.

The blender brush, which they designed for foundation application, is not my favorite. In general, I'm big on sponges for foundation application and this brush streaks, like pretty much all foundation brushes I've ever used. It's different from most foundation brushes because of the shape and the combination of natural and synthetic hair but I personally did not think it made a huge difference in application. It's nice for applying concealer though. Good size.

The eye brushes are very nice. If anything, I've found the most use for those two. The eye shader is good for sweeping across the entire lid and the eye contour brush is excellent for those little corners and creases. It's a lovely basic combo which I've used with standard eyeshadow duos that have a highlight and a contour shade.

Overall,  hair and handle are both of good quality on all the brushes. This is a good set but I prefer other travel sets that also include a large powder brush and maybe an eyeliner/brow brush. For $75, I think I got some good quality brushes. Not the absolute must-have but also not bad. The size is definitely great for travel. Nordstrom is currently selling an upgraded version of this brush set for $100 and it includes one more brush and a different-looking bag. I think it makes a nice gift for the holidays.
